The Alchemist Giveaway Winners

Hello there,

Long time coming, I know. But I have had a whirlwind week or two.

So I may have mentioned that I am a lousy decision maker. I struggled with picking winners and finding the right criteria for picking winners but I couldn’t decide. Finally, I decide to eliminate the people that are my friends and then pick the winners from who else is left. I hope you forgive me, there’s something special in the works for you

Here goes:

“The Alchemist” Book Giveaway

“The dunes are changed by the wind, but the desert never changes. That’s the way it will be with our love for each other. Maktub”- Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

In Q1, I remember planning a giveaway of Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist. Well, that didn’t happen because of many things – Bookshop didn’t stock, I couldn’t order from Amazon because the exchange rate was out of control and then I moved it back on my priority list. Well, the giveaway is open again as I now have copies available to readers in Lagos because of Logistics (I hope I can give Kindle copies sometime in the future). It includes a special 25th Anniversary introduction by the author. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post saying you want to win(I would love if you shared too; you know Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Google+, Pinterest, Instagram, BBM, etc    ). I’ll pick two comments at random.

In the meantime, these are my favourite quotes from The Alchemist.

“So, I love you because the entire universe conspired to help me find you.”

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

“It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”

“One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving.”

“When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.”

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”

“The secret of life, though, is to fall seven times and to get up eight times.”

“The simple things are also the most extraordinary things, and only the wise can see them.”

“Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.”

“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.”

“No matter what he does, every person on earth plays a central role in the history of the world. And normally he doesn’t know it.”

“Don’t give in to your fears. If you do, you won’t be able to talk to your heart.”

“People are capable, at any time in their lives, of doing what they dream of.”

“Everything that happens once can never happen again. But everything that happens twice will surely happen a third time.”

“If someone isn’t what others want them to be, the others become angry. Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.”

“I don’t live in either my past or my future. I’m interested only in the present. If you can concentrate always on the present, you’ll be a happy man. Life will be a party for you, a grand festival, because life is the moment we’re living now.”

“When each day is the same as the next, it’s because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day that the sun rises.”

“Why do we have to listen to our hearts?” the boy asked.

“Because, wherever your heart is, that is where you will find your treasure.”

“When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too.”

“Every blessing ignored becomes a curse.”

“You will never be able to escape from your heart. So it’s better to listen to what it has to say.”

“If you start by promising what you don’t even have yet, you’ll lose your desire to work towards getting it.”

“Intuition is really a sudden immersion of the soul into the universal current of life.”

“Don’t think about what you’ve left behind” The alchemist said to the boy as they began to ride across the sands of the desert. “If what one finds is made of pure matter, it will never spoil. And one can always come back. If what you had found was only a moment of light, like the explosion of a star, you would find nothing on your return.”

“To realize one’s destiny is a person’s only obligation.”

“Sometimes there’s just no way to hold back the river. Maktub (It is written.)”

On Easter and New Beginnings

Happy Easter Darlings!

Yes I know it’s been like forever. February was a mess (was ill, on and off), and well, March brought it’s madness on many levels, but I’m glad to be alive.

It’s Easter and that means so many things. First, it means that we all get the chance to start afresh,  new beginnings, fresh oil. A lot of times, life deals us heavy blows and we often find detours on our maps, but Easter says “keep it moving”.

When you think that no one has got your back, Easter says “Jesus loves you enough to give you everything”. It’s a reminder that there is always someone willing to help you carry your Cross, if you will just let them know you need help. Easter is a reminder that no matter how many times we fall, you can rise from the ashes! Easter means that provided you are alive, you can still win. And it’s okay to forgive yourself and the ones who hurt you; and to move on from that place to a place of happiness. Easter offers you a clean slate, take it. As Paulo Coelho wrote in The Alchemist, “As he mused about these things, he realized that he had to choose between thinking of himself as the poor victim of a thief and as an adventurer in quest of his treasure”

In the new quarter, there’s a whole new lease of life that you can take advantage of. Do the things that you only vaguely considered, because if you can think it, you can do it. There’s so much that life has to offer- friendship, happiness, success, love and so much more. By all means, take it, you deserve it. You just never know when the whole universe will conspire to favour you.

And bursting in this new lease of life, I hope to update my blog more often, twice a month minimum, so help me God. I hope what I write is well received and feedback is given.

So, in the meantime, Happy Easter again. When you get the chance to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance.

And talking about new beginnings, did you notice my new domain name?
